Resistance training involves using rubber resistance bands while carrying out exercises you would find easy without resistance. It has countless benefits for people of all ages and fitness levels, including stronger muscles, joints and tendons and increased balance to prevent injury.
Weightlifting can take different forms and whatever your target, there’s a lot more science to it than just lifting heavy things and putting them down again. But don’t worry, our incredibly knowledgeable trainer will be able to demystify lifting approaches, and tune you body into a well oiled machine, by laying solid foundations so you’ll be lifting with impeccable form, and have your stabilizer muscles well developed to protect you from injury.
Kettlebells are a form of resistance training originating in Russia that involve swinging heavy weights using handles. Originally used as weights for farming machinery, Russian farmers would compete in local competitions similar to the highland games to perform challenges with them. Later in the 20th century they became widely used by the Russian military and especially Spetsnaz (the elite branch of Russian special forces). At the end of the Cold War the training methods were exported to the rest of the world and have shown to be an incredible tool for building power, endurance and general athletic abilities. Kettlebell exercises are now often used in classes with music.
If you’re looking to burn a lot of calories in a training session and gain muscle then look no further. High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) can be performed simply using your body weight for resistance, or with weights and kettlebells as well. These sessions can be short, but can also be very mentally challenging to push your limits and garner the maximum benefits. Luckily our PT is on hand to motivate you to not only push your limits but also have a jolly good time doing it!
Cardio & Conditioning
Our strength & conditioning coach is experienced in many sports- rugby, rock climbing and boxing just to name a few- so if you want to build aerobic endurance (stamina) to run a marathon, do the Three Peaks Challenge, or just keep up with the kids when you’re having a kick-about, we’ve got you set.
We offer padworks sessions which is a really fun way to not only get your heart pumping and increase both muscular endurance and cardiovascular endurance but also let out a bit of the frustration of modern life out in a controlled, healthy way.
