Shape Your Future is a family business co-founded by husband and wife, Tom and Gemma Hughes. They met at Staffs Uni, where they both played rugby in 2003, the year they both remember fondly as the last time England won the Rugby World Cup. They married and have two children, George and Bella. 

Having built the clinic attached to their own home, a former bakery that is a listed building in Stone, Staffordshire, Shape Your Future began providing massage and rehabilitation services. SYF now have a great mix of Physio and Osteo talent to suit everyone’s sports recovery/preparation and injury rehabilitation needs.

Tom Hughes, Clinical Director

Meet co-founder of Shape Your Future… Tom is Senior Sports Therapist with a specialism in acute and chronic injuries. He has an Honours Degree in Sports Science at Staffs Uni and is studying for a Masters in Sports Psychology. Tom specialises in Personal Training, Nutrition and Sports Therapy, trained in application of BTL technology and a RockDoc certified in using RockTape. 

Tom played England & GB Students Rugby. He was called up for Staffordshire and Cheshire Seniors and won at Twickenham twice. He also played for many clubs: Sale FC, Longton, Stoke, Sandbach, Lymm, Northwich, Stone and the Anti-Assassins. He became a Sale Jets Academy coach after retiring from rugby.

Tom Rugby Twickenham

Tom won Full Colours at uni playing two sports and won the prestigious Stuart Boon Award. A passionate sportsman, Tom continues to play rugby, cricket and golf in his spare time whilst enjoying road running, skiing and cycling. He has also competed as a county cricketer and amateur boxer. 

Tom is a family man who has been happily married for over 10 years and has two young children that keep him busy outside of work. 

 

Meet The Practitioners

 

Ewen McDonald, Osteotherapist/Massage Therapist

Ewen is a fourth-year Osteopathic student at the College of Osteopaths. Ewen has previously worked with athletes from a range of sports- IPR registered powerlifters such as Antonio Poskovic (below) and national level Rugby players and mountaineers, as well as international Cyclists such as (now retired) Sam Williams.

Ewen has an excellent background in a vast array of rehabilitation – From injury diagnosis, sports massage, spinal manipulation and shockwave therapy to post injury rehabilitation programmes, return to sport and everything in between. At SYF he offers combined therapy treatment using the BTL rehabilitation machines in clinic.

Ewen is a keen rugby player, who played alongside Tom for Staffs Uni. He enjoys cycling while holidaying in Canada and Croatia.

 

Lara, Sports Massage Therapist

Lara has a degree in Sports Therapy from Birmingham University. She has worked alongside the physios at Coventry Ladies football club. A specialist in deep tissue sports massage, Lara offers high quality massage treatment for general aches and pains or sporting injuries.

Lara is a lover of sport. She has recently become a swimming teacher for young kids and teaches her own lessons, helping get the kids’ confidence up in the water. She has swam competitively and played football for a girls’ team. She now does swimming and running as a hobby for her fitness and health. Read our interview with Lara.

Lara has a degree in Sports Therapy is the clinics resident massage therapist and go to person for all your aches and pains and also offers home visits for those struggling to get to the clinic.
 
Both Ewen and Tom are also fully trained in the shockwave and super inductive treatments and can offer you a full initial consultation to see who in the team would be best suited to treat you and what will be the best and most effective way of helping you.
